All programs accept appointments by telephone or email.  We also offer remote learning when needed. 

All programs are open to all and are at no cost to you.

  • Project Read is our program to encourage parents/caregivers on the importance of reading to children and provides free books to children and youth.
  • Project ALIVE is a program with Rural Services that provides education and reading assistance to adults with disabilities.
  • Families Read Together is a program originally funded by a 2021 ALA grant to help our library keep (current or former) incarcerated individuals of the county jail connected with their children by reading to them over recorded video. For individuals in jail, each family receives five chosen books and a video of the guardian reading to their child. For individuals on Probation, each family receives three chosen books and a video of the guardian reading to their child. (You must be allowed contact with your children and either in the county jail or on probation with Plumas County Probation Dept. This is for individuals who have a large role in a child's life, either as their parent, guardian, or close contact.)

Además, estamos planeando ofrecer clases en persona y por la computadora. Todos los programas están disponibles para todos y gratis. Tenemos clases en Español en la biblioteca de Portola. Los clases incluye: instrucciones previas a la prueba de GED, educación financiera, educación de la idioma Ingles, instrucción de gramática y escritura, asistencia de lectura y comprensión, instrucción previa a la prueba de ciudadanía, instrucción básica de computadora.

Please contact the Quincy Literacy Program if you are interested in having your business join Project Read, in which we deliver a basket of free books for your customers to take in an effort to encourage child reading. We are also happy to provide Project Read books for events free to the public and aimed at children.  Must be located in Plumas County.

DigitalLearn.org provides tools and resources in English and Spanish on how to use a computer.
Free Math Help offers different math lessons, from algebra to trigonometry.
GCF Learning offers tutorials to learn and develop the skills needed to advance in work and life in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
The Guide to Grammar and Writing covers word, sentence, and paragraph levels.
Grammar Bytes offers handouts and exercises.
Instructables Workshop has a large collection of how-to step-by-step workshop projects for all things making.
Khan Academy offers courses from biology to coding, at various ages.
Lit2Go is a free online collection of stories and poems in Mp3 (audiobook) format. An abstract, citation, playing time, and word count are given for each of the passages. Many of the passages also have a related reading strategy identified. Each reading passage can also be downloaded as a PDF and printed for use as a read-along or as supplemental reading material for your classroom.
Marshall Adult Education was designed to create leveled reading selections to aid in building learners’ fluency and comprehension skills.
Pronunciation Dictionary tells you how to pronounce millions of words in multiple languages.
Sentence Diagrams offers the basics of sentence diagramming for English.
The Suttering Foundation provides free e-books and videos to help you and/or your child/teen with suttering.

For ESL Students

DigitalLearn.org provides tools and resources in English and Spanish on how to use a computer. DigitalLearn ofrece apoyo y formación en alfabetización digital. ESLGames.com offers various games and activities to help practice your English skills.
ESL- Lab offers a variety of pre-listening, listening, and post-listening activities to help students develop their communication skills.
